Woman in Tourism – The Midlands Amble
Heading into the farming community of The Midlands Amble we hear a resounding cheer whenever Di Erskine, former Chairlady of The Midlands Amble, was mentioned! We met with her to hear her story and how she has encouraged tourism growth within the area.
We asked Di about her community and the place she calls home.
My home is on the banks of Albert Falls Dam, a small holding with several species of game on it. I have been involved in the Midlands Amble for 20 years now. Back in the day we were known as the Albert Falls Amble.
I was Chairlady for 15 of the 20 years, I developed the Midlands Amble brochure, which was a project that really was great success. The printing was done yearly with the help of LT Printers, using quality paper and adverts.
I create my own Bed and Breakfast, as we live in such a beautiful part of the uMshwathi Municipality. Many of our guests return to participate in the famous bass tournament.
The Midlands Amble is certainly close to my heart, we are all ‘one man bands’, we are like a family of friends, always ready to help each other.
Our area appeals to all who come and visit, we have history, birding, nature, peaceful quiet spaces and game. However take a look through our Midlands Amble Brochure when you are next in our area and you will find an activity to suit your needs.
