Why we love Clarens!
We asked our fans why they visit Clarens and it seems to be ‘Active in Nature’ is the TOP reason! Here’s a weekend itinerary to keep you and accompanying travellers actively occupied.
Travelling from Johannesburg to Clarens will take you 3 hours and from Durban 4 hours. Allow yourself the opportunity to stop, rest and capture the beautiful scenery that is on show before you arrive in Clarens.
A welcome beer always goes down well, and what better than a pint of home-brewed Clarens Brewery beer, which is situated on the village green. The beer is brewed on site using homegrown cherries and apples. The Cherry Cider is scrumptiously good, a popular choice with the ladies. Be on the lookout for the Clarens Beer Fest in February – tickets sell quick!
Head to one of the dining rooms for your hearty Friday evening meal. Clarens Tourism Forum has done a great job providing a list of what you can expect on the Clarens Menu.
Before we discover all things natural and ridiculous, let’s kick start your day with a cup of coffee at Highland Coffee Roastery, because a day has not truly begun until a warm, rich, creamy cup of coffee has been consumed.
From the steps of Highland Coffee, you can move casually onto the many Art Galleries Clarens hosts. Wander through various shops offering homeware, clothing, jewellery or perhaps a second-hand jacket for your next ski trip to Afriski, Lesotho.
First on our activities list, an early morning game drive with Clarens Safari in an open game vehicle to explore the Sandstone overhangs, caves and herds of Eland, Black Wildebeest, Red Hartebeest and other smaller antelope. Try their informative Dino Drive, kids will be enthralled by all they see and hear.
On your return from the game drive, head down to Clarens Xtreme to get a taste of the adrenaline options you can enjoy on site. Once you conquer the zip-line ensure you book your white-water rafting trip – it certainly will get the blood pumping. Before you leave Clarens Xtreme, hop over the road to get your family photograph at the Clarens selfie board, post your pic on Instagram tagging @clarenstourism and @n3gateway.
Pack your hat, sunblock, hiking boots and water bottles, you are hiking in Golden Gate Highlands National Park. With quite a few options based on your fitness levels and time availability, SANParks have created the perfect hiking guide for you to chose from.
Before you head home hitch a ride at Di Bus Stop!, This quirky red bus serves as your Diner! Great milkterts await and of course a photo with the red bus is a must!
Clarens hosts a multitude of events throughout the year, book your accommodation early to not miss out!
