STEPHEN PRYKE – FROM THE MOUNTAINS TO THE SEA
Living in the Midlands of KwaZulu-Natal has its benefits as it offers easy access to some of the most magnificent parts of this country such as the Drakensberg, the coast, Zululand, the Battlefields and the Midlands itself. This and a love of the nature, was the force that led Stephen to create his collection of photographs.
He now has a large image library that contains scenic, nature and tourism pictures as well as other photographs that reflect life in Southern Africa. He conducts regular photographic courses and does photography for weddings and functions as well as taking on photographic commissions for hospitality and commercial organisations.
A keen photographer from his early years, Stephen took up professional photographic work 18 years ago. Prior to this he worked in sales, marketing and personnel for various large corporations. He has a BA (Hons) degree from Wits University.
He is based at Glass Cuttings in Hilton which is on the Midlands Meander. His photographic work is on display both there and in other galleries in the Midlands. It is also annually featured at Art in the Park in Pietermaritzburg, where he has participated for the last 10 years. He was awarded his Associateship of the Photographic Society of Southern Africa in 1999.
As mentioned, much of his time at present is taken up by conducting photographic courses, workshops, photo-shop tutorials and recently travel photography lectures on the cruise ship, MSC Sinfonia. He also organises photographic tours of KwaZulu-Natal, the Eastern Free State and further afield. This autumn he embark on two tours to the Free State to capture cosmos, misty mornings and autumn colours.
