The N3 Gateway region covers a broad corridor from Pretoria to Durban (ending at North Beach) and from Lesotho to the kwaZulu-Natal Battlefields at Dundee. The N3 Gateway Tourism Association believes in the future of its members, entrenching sustainable and responsible tourism practices. N3 Toll Concession is the primary sponsor of the 2018 N3 Photo Competition and of N3 Gateway.
The main objectives of the photographic competition are to promote the amazing diversity of the route and to encourage photography as a hobby, especially among local communities and scholars.
Images must be e-mailed to firstname.lastname@example.org, entitled 2018 N3 Photo Comp. You may also place your image/s on either WeTransfer or Dropbox and e-mail the link if the image is too large to email.
All captions, and personal and technical information that are requested, must be supplied by the photographer.
Photographers can enter a maximum of three photographs per category:
Images of people in all walks of life, reflecting their emotion and activity.
b. Events and Action
Involving unpredictable movement, this could include movement or action at a sporting event, festival and vehicles.
Photography that displays natural elements such as wildlife, plants, birds, insects, and close-up’s of natural scenes and textures; captured in their natural environment.
Photography that covers landscape, panoramic, mountains, weather phenomena and farmlands. Human or manmade elements may be present.
e. Altered and Abstract Images
A photograph that has been technically manipulated. This could include abstract, HDR, stitched and composite images, amongst others.

g. All of the above captured through a smart phone
h. Drone Images
* To qualify for the Scholar prizes, the photographer should be aged 18 years or younger. Photographers who turn 19 during the competition will still be eligible to enter this category. Each individual image in a youth submission must fit within any of this contest’s categories.
A selection of the winning photographs will be published in the N3TC 2019 Corporate Calendar, N3TC’s Mobility publication, N3TC’s and N3 Gateway’s social media channels, and on the N3 Gateway website in low resolution format. These photographs will used at the N3TC and N3 Gateway’s discretion. Copyright of all images submitted to the competition will be transferred to and permanently reside with the archive competition’s conditions.
The N3TC calendar is produced on the basis of a page-a-month (12), with acknowledgement of the photographers. Samples of the 2016, 2017 and 2018 calendars are available for review at the N3TC offices in Irene.
N3 Gateway undertakes not to make use of the photographs for further marketing or advertising purposes other than mentioned above, without consultation with the photographer in question.
Photographers must have taken the image that they submit themselves and be able to supply RAW or original files when requested. Photographers must receive permission in their private capacity to photograph any subject matter (be it human or animal) before entry to the competition.
Winners and runners-up will be requested to sign a release allowing N3 Gateway and N3TC to use the photographs for PR purposes.
Photographs must be taken in the near vicinity of the N3 Gateway and should be supplied in digital format with a minimum resolution of 300dpi. A high-resolution version of the entry photo must be available to print on an A2-sized calendar.
Harassment of both people and animals or destruction of the environment in pursuit of an image will not be tolerated.
We do not accept digitally or otherwise enhanced or altered photos, except for those entered in the Abstract & Altered Images category.
Images must accurately and realistically represent the natural world. Minimal editing will be allowed within the following guidelines: Normal processing of RAW and JPEG images (minor adjustments to colour, contrast, gradients, sharpening, noise reduction and HDR) are acceptable. HDR composites and panoramic stitching will be allowed, as long as the final image bears a realistic resemblance to the original scene. If the judges determine that a photographer has altered his or her photo beyond the minor adjustments, they reserve the right to move the photo to Altered Images or to disqualify it.

The closing date for entries is 31 July 2018. The judges cannot accept responsibility for late entries.
The competition will be judged by a panel of independent judges.
The judges’ decision is final and no correspondence will be entered into.
The People’s Choice Award, will be based purely on which image receives the highest likes through our social media platforms. The People Choice image will be purely based on votes via the public and not an indication of the N3 Gateways panel of judges final choice.
Winners will be notified via email and their prize money will be transferred into their bank accounts via EFT.
The N3 Gateway may re-allot prizes if we are unable to contact selected winners. Please ensure that you provide the correct contact details.
Prizes are non-transferable.
Cash prizes are only deliverable to South African Bank accounts.
