N3 Photo Comp Terms and Conditions

N3 Gateway / N3 Photo Comp Terms and Conditions

The N3 Gateway region covers a broad corridor from Pretoria to Durban (ending at North Beach) and from Lesotho to the kwaZulu-Natal Battlefields at Dundee. The N3 Gateway Tourism Association believes in the future of its members, entrenching sustainable and responsible tourism practices. N3 Toll Concession is the primary sponsor of the 2018 N3 Photo Competition and of N3 Gateway.

The main objectives of the photographic competition are to promote the amazing diversity of the route and to encourage photography as a hobby, especially among local communities and scholars.

A selection of the winning photographs will be published in the N3TC 2019 Corporate Calendar, N3TC’s Mobility publication, N3TC’s and N3 Gateway’s social media channels, and on the N3 Gateway website in low resolution format. These photographs will used at the N3TC and N3 Gateway’s discretion. Copyright of all images submitted to the competition will be transferred to and permanently reside with the archive competition’s conditions.

The N3TC calendar is produced on the basis of a page-a-month (12), with acknowledgement of the photographers. Samples of the 2016, 2017 and 2018 calendars are available for review at the N3TC offices in Irene.

N3 Gateway undertakes not to make use of the photographs for further marketing or advertising purposes other than mentioned above, without consultation with the photographer in question.

Photographers must have taken the image that they submit themselves and be able to supply RAW or original files when requested. Photographers must receive permission in their private capacity to photograph any subject matter (be it human or animal) before entry to the competition.

Winners and runners-up will be requested to sign a release allowing N3 Gateway and N3TC to use the photographs for PR purposes.

Photographs must be taken in the near vicinity of the N3 Gateway and should be supplied in digital format with a minimum resolution of 300dpi. A high-resolution version of the entry photo must be available to print on an A2-sized calendar.

Harassment of both people and animals or destruction of the environment in pursuit of an image will not be tolerated.

Regarding Drone entries, please refer to the South African Civil Aviation Authority Website for rules on drone photography and the Protection of Personal Information Act.

We do not accept digitally or otherwise enhanced or altered photos, except for those entered in the Abstract & Altered Images category.

Images must accurately and realistically represent the natural world. Minimal editing will be allowed within the following guidelines: Normal processing of RAW and JPEG images (minor adjustments to colour, contrast, gradients, sharpening, noise reduction and HDR) are acceptable. HDR composites and panoramic stitching will be allowed, as long as the final image bears a realistic resemblance to the original scene. If the judges determine that a photographer has altered his or her photo beyond the minor adjustments, they reserve the right to move the photo to Altered Images or to disqualify it.
