Our small coffee shop also sells a selection of hot and cold drinks as well as light snacks.

4. Ride the Grotto Trail on your Mountain Bike
The Grotto Trail is the highlight of the 100km track that makes up the Drakensberg MTB Trails system. This 25km round route climbs up into the foothills of the little Drakensberg, meandering though Protea trees, over stream ravines before going up and down some breathtaking hills. The views are spectacular, and the riding even more so! Countless bridges make for a flowing trail that you will want to do again and again. As the riding is technical, a good level of fitness and expertise is required.
A number of other trails are also available for beginners and intermediate riders. Visit for more details.

5. Hike at Royal Natal
Ukhahlamba Drakensberg Park, World Heritage Site
The Royal Natal offers a number of scenic trails for the whole family. The Cascades Trail is especially popular among families with young children as the easy gradient and paved pathways make it very achievable.
The Fairy Glen Trail is also a lovely family trail that goes through an indigenous forest beside the stream to a beautiful waterfall.
More adventurous hikers will not want to miss the Gudu Falls and Tugela Gorge Trails – Make a whole day of these hikes with a packed lunch and a swimming costume – the river pools are irresistible (and freezing cold!)

6. Amphitheatre Hike
This is a definite for your bucket list – a climb to the top of the world-famous Tugela Falls. This full day outing to ‘the top of the world’ takes in some of SA’s most scenic trails. Guests drive to the Sentinel Car Park (+-120km from All Out Adventures) before tackling the hike via the contour path and chain ladders. Guests must be fit and well equipped to complete this hike due to the high altitude (2600+m) and dramatically changeable weather conditions. It is better to go with a guide. Community guides can be arranged through the Visitors Centre at Royal Natal Park.

7. Bungee Bounce and Kids Zone
at All Out Adventures
All Out Adventures also offers awesome activities for children. Little children as young as age two can enjoy the Bungee Bounce – a trampoline and harness system where they are attached to bungee ropes and winched up above the trampoline; something like a giant jolly jumper. They can bounce and safely perform back and front flips if they wish.
A bungee bounce ticket also includes access to the Kids Zone, an enclosed play area with duelling Sit and Zips (mini zip lines with an automatic brake system), a trampoline, swings and the Ninja Warrior Junior Course. Parents can refuel with a giant Cappuccino while the children happily burn up some energy.

These guys make the best pizzas – freshly made to order in a wood-burning oven using a closely guarded family recipe. They also offer a range of other delicious foods, including pastas, tramezzinis, salads and lamb chops. Their homemade desserts are to die for too! There is indoor and outdoor seating, with lots of place for children to run around, as well as an enclosed playground with plenty of climbing apparatus.

9.Nachos and beer at Hlala’s Pub and Grill, Hlalanathi Drakensberg Resort
Hlala’s offers a varied menu that will cater for the whole family – our personal favourite is their really good nachos. A good accompaniment is to choose from the great selection of ice cold local and imported beers. With a welcoming atmosphere and relaxed vibe, sports fans can also enjoy sports fixtures that are screened on the big screen TV on the veranda.

Montusi Mountain Lodge has probably got the best view in the valley of the Drakensberg’s most famous landmark – The Amphitheatre. Enjoy this spectacular view from their veranda with a cup of tea (made the right way with hot cups) and Emma’s delicious scones served with jam and cream. Locals swear they offer the best scones in the valley!
