Bushmen paintings next to Llandaff Lodge at Van Reenen is a lovely experience and is only a short 15-minute walk to the caves.

From Johannesburg drive approximately 319 Km on the N3 Toll Route south. Pass Montrose on your right-hand-side and your second left, turn-off at Van Reenen – Caltex Garage. Stop there and contact, Bonginkosi Ndaba on 072 930 1427 and he will take you on a gravel road, passing Oaklands Country Manor then past De Beers Pass road to the left and straight to Nelson’s Kop mountain.

One hour thirty minutes walk up the mountain; spot Bearded Vultures at the summit of Nelson’s Kop. Species to look out for on your way are: Bald ibis, Grey Crowned-crane and Blue Crane, Water birds like South African Shelducks and African Spoonbill may also be seen. Bonginkosi will point out other birds of prey such as Cape Vultures. Bonginkosi can enlighten you with stories of the local cultures; and fauna and flora on your walk.
