A three hour guided birding hike on Nelson’s Kop at Van Reenen. Bonginkosi your guide will point out fauna and flora with a specific focus on birding. Spot bearded vultures at the summit.
From Johannesburg drive approximately 319 Km on the N3 Toll Route south. Pass Montrose on your right-hand-side and your second left, turn-off at Van Reenen – Caltex Garage. Stop there and contact, Bonginkosi Ndaba on 072 930 1427 and he will take you on a gravel road, passing Oaklands Country Manor then past De Beers Pass road to the left and straight to Nelson’s Kop mountain.
One hour thirty minutes walk up the mountain; spot Bearded Vultures at the summit of Nelson’s Kop. Species to look out for on your way are: Bald ibis, Grey Crowned-crane and Blue Crane, Water birds like South African Shelducks and African Spoonbill may also be seen.
