10km Trail – Easy:
This white-graded route is very easy and perfect for beginners!
Ride out through the club gates along the marked routes. While there will be many signs leading to sections of single-track, we suggest you stay on the forestry roads and follow the 10km route markings if this is your first time on the trails. For those seeking more excitement, try out the legendary ‘Boomslang’ trail, which boasts spectacular views of the Karkloof Falls picnic area as well as along the river’s edge.

20km Trail – Easy/Intermediate:
This green-rated route is predominantly easy. It offers a good introduction to the more technical aspects of riding and some spectacular views.
This route follows a section of the 10km trail, but then takes you further out into the plantations and natural bush. Winding =down through plantations for a few kilometres, the route continues back to the Karkloof Falls road where you can enjoy the views over the Karkloof Valley to Hilton College and Albert Falls Dam. Descend to the river, over the bridge and up the other side. This flowing single-track section joins the legendary ‘Boomslang’ trail, bringing you out above the tranquil Karkloof Falls picnic sight. Continue left along the jeep trail and join the moderately graded ‘River Riviere’, which follows the boulder-strewn Karkloof River. If you are a bit apprehensive about tackling slightly more technical single-track, stay on the jeep trail and follow the10km markers home. The ‘Heaven’ trail is sure to bring you back to the club smiling from ear to ear!

15km Trail – Intermediate/Advanced:
As a relatively new addition to the trails, this route incorporates some of the best features over a reduced distance. It is perfect for those who would like to test their newly developed skills on a fun (yet challenging!) trail. It includes sections of the 30km route and gives you the opportunity to take a break before heading out onto a different route, or ride the same route again.

30km Trail – Intermediate/Experienced:
This blue-graded route is predominantly moderate. It mainly consists of single-track and incorporates some of the best trails the Karkloof has to offer.
This trail takes you through the wider region of the Karkloof Trails area. The trail leads under the tar road, after which you ride over the Historical Bridge and through newly established plantations. Follow the route markers onto grasslands and over a few streams before the start of the big ‘Bubble and Skweek’ climb.’

Join the single-track at the top and ride through to ‘Fawlty Towers’, which contains some technical sections. A few kilometres later, you will arrive at ‘Bernie’s Bundle’ and the ‘Carnival’ – truly amazing trails that will have you whooping in delight like you did as a kid on a water slide. After the ‘Carnival,’ turn right onto a forestry road and watch out for the next left onto ‘Back of Beyond.’ (Those wanting more of a challenge can take the ‘Puff Adder’ route a little further on). Both routes will join at ‘No Balls’. After crossing the tar road, turn left at the loading-zone to return back to the club. Alternatively, you can extend your ride by linking up with the marked 20km route at the loading zone..

XCO Trail – Advanced:
This route is for more advanced riders looking to test their skills.

The route comprises 95% single-track over a 5.86km course. This route is predominantly graded black diamond (difficult) to double black diamond (very difficult).
Expect to ride several challenging obstacles such as the fast-flowing ‘Revolver’ trail that leads you down towards the Karkloof River, and single-track that takes you into the lung- busting ‘Triple X’ climb, featuring some challenging tight rocks.

Technical rock gardens and north-shore wooden bridge features are prominent before entering ‘Subway,’ which drops you into a quarry with a sweet berm wall-ride. Then it is into the famous ‘Supa Tube’ – a series of steep switch-backs through the valley, connected by wooden bridges which incorporates difficult and moderate options in this section.

Continue over the forest road into ‘Digits Dive,’ a gentle contour trail leading along the Karkloof River, then turn up ‘Salmon’s Sidewalk’ climb and up to the old Sappi village before finishing off down ‘Auto Bahn’, and along the forest road back to the club.
