Montusi Mountain Lodge is situated on a 1000 hectare conservation estate in the unspoilt Northern Drakensberg of KwaZulu-Natal. The majestic Amphitheatre mountain provides a spectacular backdrop to this undeveloped valley. The focus of the lodge is space, comfort and peace: the panoramic mountain vistas and expansive landscapes provide unparalleled space. The furnishings of the accommodation are at the height of comfort. The quiet of the environment, free from road noise, allows us to enjoy unrivalled peace.
Imaginative cuisine and individually prepared meals are a highlight of the Montusi experience. The lodge is made up of a large thatched main building with reception, dining room, bar, games loft, lounge and massage room.
The hotel suites are individual free-standing buildings in the indigenous gardens. Every building is positioned to take full advantage of the spectacular mountain scenery through large picture windows. Each suite has one or two en-suite bedrooms and a separate living room with gas fire-place, TV, DVD player, tea/ coffee station, fridge and a private patio.
Activities on offer include hiking, visits to Bushman painting sites and our local Zulu village, horse riding, fly-fishing, tennis, bird watching, swimming, trail running and mountain bike trails. Golf and adventure activities such as quad biking and a cable tour are nearby. Our community project, Relaxation Massages, are also hugely popular, as is the option of doing absolutely “nothing”.
Space, comfort and peace combined with great food and genuine hospitality from this family-owned and run lodge sets Montusi apart as a Drakensberg gem.
