La Route du Prince Impérial, Louis Napoléon: French Presence in KwaZulu-Natal

N3 Gateway / La Route du Prince Impérial, Louis Napoléon: French Presence in KwaZulu-Natal

This can be a half-day tour from Dundee combined with either the Talana Museum and battlefield or Ncome/Blood River using a local guide based in Dundee.

The Route reveals a wealth of Franco-South African historical and cultural associations through some of the most panoramic vistas of the province of KwaZulu-Natal.  Follow in the footsteps of the young Prince Impérial, Louis Napoléon, whose poignant monument is one of the Battlefields’ sites; visit the places associated with his and his mother’s (the Empress Eugénie) passage from Durban, through Pietermaritzburg, to Dundee, to Uqweqwe where the young Prince met his untimely fate on I June 1879, in the closing stages of the Anglo-Zulu War of 1879.
