Two- or three-day out rides into Lesotho on horseback.

Meet us or stay with us at Khotso Farm, a working horse and sheep farm in the Southern Drakensberg. Here you will meet your guide and your steed before you are given a brief instruction in how to ride. Your horse will be an incredibly sure-footed and calm Basotho. These horses are native to the area and bred expressly for their calmness and ability to navigate the rough mountainous terrain of the Maluti-Drakensberg region.

After the introductions, you will set out for the Lesotho border at Bushman’s Nek, where you will mount up and ride through the border into Lesotho.

The morning of the first day is spent climbing through the spectacular and unspoilt Bushman’s Nek Pass. Enjoy lunch at the top of the pass and take in the spectacular views before you mount up and continue towards your lodge accommodation for the night. Your rustic lodge, set in the stunning Sehlabathebe National Park is comfortable and well equipped.

Horse Riding trips of three days or more will descend steep valleys and travel through stunning gorges in search of remote Basotho villages and ancient bushman rock art, before on the final day, returning via the Bushman’s Nek Pass to South Africa. Before you reach the border, why not stop at the Tsoelekani Falls for a quick swim (if you’re brave enough!)
