The Zulu War of 1879 is famous throughout the English-speaking world for the great battles of Isandlwana and Rorke’s Drift.  The Fugitives’ Drift property, a spectacular 5000 acre Natural Heritage Site and game reserve, overlooks both battlefields and is the perfect place to stay to experience luxury in beautiful Zululand. World-class tours to the battlefields are taken daily by Douglas Rattray and his fantastic team of talented lecturers. Guests staying at Fugitives’ Drift, Rorkes Drift, can expect good food, tastefully decorated rooms, and excellent service. There are several different options for accommodation at Fugitives’ Drift, with something to suit every budget.

The lodge is the most luxurious of all the  accommodation options; each spacious room has an en-suite bathroom with both inside and outside showers, air-conditioning, a mini-fridge, and a veranda with views of the plains flanking the Buffalo River gorge. The lodge also houses the stunning Harford library and the museum.  Guest house rooms are comfortable and individually decorated, with ceiling fans, en-suite bathrooms, and verandas with views out into the garden and onto the indigenous bushveld. The lodge and the guest house both have sparkling pools in their respective gardens. Umzinyathi is a spacious self-catering unit that can sleep six, situated away from the lodge on the top of the reserve.
