Escape to the serenity of our 800 hectare farm. Come and unwind, relax and enjoy comfortable accommodation, abundant bird life, pretty gardens, gorgeous views, walks, picnicking and fishing in the dam or river.
Briar Lea’s location also makes it an ideal overnight spot for those heading up Sani Pass or wanting a comfortable stop over after day one of the Giants Cup Trail. For bird lovers, we have more than 50 species on our farm, including a large flock of crowned crane. Large birds of prey are often seen and there is a Vulture Restaurant on the hill.
Briar Lea is a working farm, farming cattle, maize, potatoes and beans. Our dam is stocked with bass and trout and the Pholela River flows through the farm. Children are most welcome and will enjoy all the sights and sounds of the working farm.
Briar Lea Lodge is the original character-filled homestead, well over a hundred years old and beautifully restored with wooden floors, large light rooms, kitchen, dining room, lounge, log fires, pub and lovely veranda with braai facilities overlooking the well kept garden, the original tennis court and farm.
The lodge boasts four en-suite bedrooms (one with an inter-leading single room) and a large six-bedded room. Accommodating 15 guests in all, Briar Lea Lodge makes an ideal venue for a large family or club getaways, informal conferences and team building. Watch the sunrise over the farm from the deck of The Loft or have a braai as you listen to the nightly jackal calls. The Loft accommodates six guests in three twin rooms, with a bathroom, lounge/ dining room and kitchenette. The double garages will protect your cars from the icy Underberg winter and the free standing log fireplace is sure to keep you warm. This cosy unit is ideal for a family or couples getaway.
