These mandates were further entrenched by the FSTA’s vision and mission that seek to ensure that the Free State is amongst the best inland destinations in South Africa.

Mission: The mission is to market the Free State as a tourism destination and mobilise all key stakeholders towards the creation of sustainable tourism industry characterised by diversity, value for money and hospitality, as well as to facilitate an environment for new tourism development opportunities.

The direct response to these mandates was the development of the Big 5 Routes that has seen the province being demarcated into five regions, each with its potential that appeals to its market but at the same time correlates in providing a seamless experience for those who love a serene environment, open skies, safari drives, scenic beauty, adrenaline and sports enthusiast, history and heritage and the high altitude.
