9 Things you HAVE to do on the N3 Gateway
Looking to add to your #travellocal bucket list and need inspiration. We located some summer winners for you to enjoy these holidays and slotted in a winter activity too, for you to diarise.
1. Explore a Local Village
To truly understand a community and culture, one must actually walk, communicate and live among them. The N3 Gateway hosts plenty of community-based tourism opportunities you can immerse yourself in. Why not visit Lesotho, Zulu Mpophomeni, Drakensberg Experience and to get a greater understanding of South Africa.
2. Enjoy a Zulu Dance
It’s amazing what a beat of a drum can manifest. From tapping one’s feet to raising your legs up in the air like a gymnast, it gets the body moving. We are fortunate enough to house the charismatic Zulu dancers along the kwaZulu-Natal section of our route. Join in the dancing fun on the 1000 Hills Tourism this December.
3. Take part in an Event
There is always something happening on the N3 Gateway, take a look at our events page to see what’s happening in an area near your next vacation.
4. Look Up to the Sky
The open skies certainly sparkle brightly on the N3 Gateway, take a trip into the country far from the city lights, lie on your back and stare up into the heavens. Winter is the perfect period to see the Milky Way! What better area than Clarens, Southern Drakensberg and the Southern Midlands
5. Get Wet
Summer on the N3 Gateway is all about sun shiny days, followed by afternoon thunderstorms. If you are heading to Durban or one of the many dams along our route, be sure to get your toes wet! Check out Durban Community Tourism Organisation, Sedibeng, Midlands Meander for more water activity ideas.

Heritage is alive on the N3 Gateway, from the kwaZulu-Natal Battlefields to San rock paintings, museums and memorial sites. You can find more details on rock art through Ezemvelo KZN and Okhahlamba Municipality. Don’t forget the kwaZulu-Natal Battlefields to head back in time.
