About Southern Midlands Tourism

The Southern Midlands of KwaZulu Natal is off the beaten track, a place of tranquillity and great beauty. In describing the beloved country, Alan Paton famous author of “Cry the Beloved Country” aptly wrote about this area, “These hills are grass covered and rolling and they are lovely beyond the singing of it.“

The Southern Midlands is a delightful destination, and has much to offer, whether your interests are birdingmountain biking (home of the renowned Sani2C ride), beautiful Trappist missions steeped in history and art, old world charm of steam trains, sightseeing, horse-riding, game viewing, water sports, paragliding, arts and crafts with a difference or just experiencing the rustic ambiance of the “Beloved Country.” It is only a short and scenic drive from the South Coast, Durban or Pietermaritzburg. The  Southern Midlands nestles in a thousand rolling hills calling to you to make it your next “away” from it all destination with many wonderful accommodation establishments ranging from the homely to the luxurious waiting to attend to your every need.
