Stretching from the KwaZulu-Natal Midlands to the Free State border, the Drakensberg Experience Route is truly spectacular. Look out for the 900-metre high Tugela Falls, the Mnweni Valley with its hiker-challenging Pinnacles, the Cathedral Peak valley, the Rock Art Centre at Didima, the Champagne Valley with Champagne Castle and Cathkin Peak dominating the skyline; the Injisuthi Valley with South Africa’s highest peak and Giant’s Castle with its famous Bushman paintings. There is also a choice of three game reserves close by, of which one has the Big Five.
There are a variety of adventure venues each offering their individual brand of air, land and water related activities of which some include: Hiking – day and overnight, mountain biking, horse riding, massages, raptor displays, canopy tours (longest in SA), helicopter flights, concerts (during Drakensberg Boys’ Choir School term time), historical tours, 4×4 trips, rock art viewing, river rafting and kayaking, museum visits and many unique shopping experiences.
